8 months ago, while on vacation - a pipe burst ruined our home. And tomorrow…we finally get to move back in!
Being displaced is a totally weird thing for a family to go through. Stressful. Emotional. But then you kind of settle into your new temporary life. For us, it has been in a high-rise just a few blocks from our “regular house.” I’m immensely thankful for an insurance policy that covered alternate living for us. That made all the difference.
The situation is far from ideal but really, it hasn’t been all bad. We made the best out of this adventure.
Our little pod of 4 stuck together. Grew together.
Sunset swims all summer long And regular walks around the neighborhood. Notable landmarks: The fiberglass cow climbing the brick facade above Little Market, the secret bookshop tucked inside Newberry Library & um, Walgreens
Fee was forced into a big-girl bed Hazel tap-danced on the bow of her boat-bed.
They pushed lots of elevator buttons.
I often wonder what memories from this experience the girls will carry into adulthood. Happy ones, I bet.
During the time we have been out of our house, a lot of life happened.
Leo turned 1 Felix turned 2 Hazel turned 3 Felix started school. Ellen graduated from Anesthesia School A whole bunch of people we love got married. And I took on a new role (same team) at work.
For the past 8 months we have been making the best of things….But god, we are so ready to get home. Tomorrow!
